Obituary for Mary Thelma Schoettker

Mary Thelma Schoettker, passed away peacefully on March 30. She was preceded in death by her brothers Irv, Robert and Larry, and by her sister, Rosella Tierney. She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great nieces and -nephews. She is also survived by many good and loving friends all over the country. Thelma was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and the University of Cincinnati, but she never stopped learning. She started her career in broadcasting at WCPO. In the early '60's, she moved to Houston where she became a writer and on-air personality for KTRH radio and KPRC-TV. In 1973, Thelma took a job on WMCA radio in New York City. But she missed the warmth and charm of Houston and returned there one year later. Back in Houston, she wrote and produced documentaries for PBS Channel 8. The documentary she wrote and produced on problems of aging had a significant impact on her own life. To keep active, she wrote for the print media and acted as a consultant for Ammerman, a media consultant firm. With the help of family, she completed a brief biography of her mother shortly before her death. Thelma will be remembered as a woman of independence, intelligence and humor. Visitation will be 10 am, Saturday, April 23rd until time of Memorial Mass, 11 am, all at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Joseph School, 745 Ezzard Charles Dr. Cincinnati, OH 45203.
