Obituary for Mary Jane Gray

Mary Jane Wisecup Gray, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday October 19th, 2018. She is survived by her two children and their spouses Mike and Susie Gray and Mark and Deborah Gray Redder, five grandchildren Andy Gray (Shannon Young), Geoff Gray ( Allie Gray), Matt Redder (Tasha Redder), Steve Redder (Keah Redder) and Laura Redder (Vipul Mehta) and six great-grandchildren – Maddox, Lily, Lydia, Macy, Olivia and Henry!
Preceded in death by her husband G.G. Gray, Mary Jane often shared with others she had a “great life.” Mary Jane traveled the world, loved living in Terrace Park and Milford, Ohio but always considered her family home at Lake George, Michigan as the heart of current and future generations for creating and enjoying a lifetime of memories.
Mary Jane was an avid sports fan and was the family historian for any baseball and football trivia. Originally from Cleveland, she graduated from Miami University-Oxford, Ohio with an elementary education degree. Mary Jane was an accomplished synchronized swimmer and diver and continued her athletic and educational interests teaching many to swim and become proficient in First Aid and Life Saving skills. She maintained a lifelong love for Miami University and the friends she made through the Delta Gamma Sorority.
Mary Jane and G.G. enjoyed many exciting seasons with the Terrace Park Players as principal participants writing, directing, singing and dancing. Mary Jane particularly enjoyed her role as one of the choreographers for many of the dance routines that made the Players group special in the Terrace Park community. In addition to their enthusiasm for the theater she and G.G. shared a love for competitive sailing and over the years won and were the recipients of many accolades for their sailing and leadership skills in the Inland Cat Class Sailing Association (ICCSA) on Lake George.
Always youthful and full of energy, she worked continuously until age 75 when she retired to spend more time with her family. She continued to swim, participate in water aerobics, joined a senior singing group and of course followed her grandsons sport activities. Many remember her fondly cheering in the stands as she never missed a game!
Mary Jane’s legacy is love of family. Her greatest gift is that her legacy will be nurtured and carried on through her family “at the cottage.” Two memorial services are planned for summer, 2019: St. Thomas Episcopal Church Columbarium in Terrace Park, Ohio and at the family home on Lake George. In lieu of flowers, Mary Jane requested that donations in her name be made to the Lake George Conservancy 1042 Angola Rd. Coldwater, MI 49036. www.lakegeorgeconservancy.com
