Obituary for Lola Jaunita Short

Lola Jaunita Short, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 8, 2009. A memorial and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at Craver-Riggs Funeral Home, 529 Main Street, Milford, Ohio. Born on June 22, 1914 in Graham, Kentucky she attended college in Cincinnati and after marriage lived briefly in Brooklyn, New York before making her permanent home in Cincinnati for more than seventy three years. �Jaunita�, which was the name she preferred and was known by, was a fascinating woman who loved education. She was a radio personality, theatre director and accomplished book reviewer before she married Dwight and became a manager for his businesses. Jaunita enjoyed traveling around the United States and the world while helping develop her husband�s company. She lived life to the fullest and continued to enjoy travel until weeks before her passing. Jaunita enjoyed weekly visits to Eric�s Beauty Shop where she treasured her friendship with Judy and Mary Kay. She had a special love for Cincinnati Country Day School and directed several of their theatre productions while her son attended the school. In her younger years she was an avid golfer, tennis player and bridge partner. Jaunita still enjoyed knitting and was in the process of completing a baby blanket. She was a member of the Cincinnati Woman�s Club, Queen City Club and Phi Beta. Preceded in death by her parents Eva Goodrum Knight and Curtis Knight, her husband of 64 years, Dwight H. Short, I and her only child Dr. Dwight H. Short, II who passed October 31, 2008. She is survived by her devoted daughter-in-law Mrs. Dwight (Kathie) H. Short, II, granddaughters Marjorie Lawrence Sibert and Demetria Knight Short, great grandchildren Garrett Snyder, Elizabeth Snyder and Anne Lisa Sibert, step grandchildren Christopher Crawford, Grace Kelly, Manning Wilks, and Kamann Kay, step great grandchildren A.J. Kay, Avary Kay, William Clayton, and Ty (Courtnay) Crawford and cousins Harold (Virginia Ellen) Tate, Linda (Hoye) Stewart, Fred (Phyliss) Tate, Patricia (Carlos) Stroud and Rosemary (Michael) Presson. She leaves to treasure her memory, family companion of more than 57 years, Ms. Norma Lee Combs. Jaunita developed many friendships over the years and enjoyed her special relationships with Ms. Lee Cain, Judy Johnson, Mrs. Don (Marion) Savage, Sharon Amato, Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Levin, drivers Mr. And Mrs. Frank Evans and Derrell Lowe and the members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Her Mississippi friends, Dawn Necessary, Dr. and Mrs. John (Eileene) McRae, Dr. and Mrs. William (Mollie) Pontius, Karen Webb, Ruth Krause, Evelyn Gregory, Dr. and Mrs. Roland (Susan) Sampson and Steve Howard and her special friends from Indiana J. Ray Johnson and David Anderson will miss her wonderful stories and sense of humor. Special appreciation to VITAS Hospice, Nurse Amber, Rev. Paul Peterson, Jewish Hospital, Dr. Nolan Weinburg and Mary Fehn, RN who made her journey home comfortable. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cincinnati Country Day School, 6905 Given Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.
