Obituary for John W. Painter

PAINTER, John W., 78, of Indian Hill, passed away Wednesday May 14, 2008 following a long illness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Woodward Painter, three sons: John W. �Jack� Painter (Donna), Thomas A. Painter (Denise) and Andrew W. Painter (Theresa). Affectionate grandfather of Gregory, Virginia, Valerie, Amy, Claire and Catherine Painter. Mr. Painter retired in 1992 as President and Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc., a Fortune 500 diversified manufacturer of industrial products. He was a world-renowned collector of Native American artifacts and author of several books on the subject. His collection has been exhibited in many museums around the country. Mr. Painter was active on several Boards of Directors, including Kuhlman Corporation, Central Trust Bank, N.A., Central Bancorporation, Bethesda Hospital, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati. He also served on the Advisory Council of the University of Illinois College of Commerce and Business Administration and on the Supplier Council for General Motors, C.P.C. Group. He was a longtime member of the Commonwealth Club. In addition to collecting Native American Artifacts, he collected antique guns and Western Art and maintained a library of over 1,500 books. He enjoyed golf, fishing and foreign travel. Funeral services 2PM Sunday May 18th at Old Armstrong Chapel, Indian Hill. No visitation.
