Obituary for David F. Cole

COLE, David Ferguson, a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio for 69 years, died July 16, 2011 at the age of 73. Shortly before he passed on, he told his wife Susan that he was leaving to go camping. He will be interred wearing his well-worn L.L. Bean hiking boots and a pinstriped Brooks Brothers dress shirt, so he will be prepared for whatever occasions the next life may bring. Devoted son of Floyd Howard Cole and Georgiana Ferguson Cole, he is survived by his beloved wife Susan Bruton Bailey Cole, his brother Thomas Ferguson Cole (June) of Batavia, and his nieces Jennifer Brook Cole and Sarah Ferguson Cole McCartney (Paul). David was known for his caustic wit, love of the great outdoors, culinary arts, fine food and wine, and opera. He was a member of the Walnut Hills High School Class of 1956 but after his father was transferred to the New York City area, David moved to New Jersey and graduated from Mountain Lakes High School in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. He attended The College of William and Mary and graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1961 with a B.S. in Chemistry. He became interested in computer science in the early 1960s and went on to become a computer programmer and systems analyst. He served in the Army, and he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, and a founding member of the Cincinnati social group known as Nobody Knows the Truffles Weve Seen. A memorial service will be held at the residence of Harry H. Garrison, Davids long time friend, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 21st. Burial will be at a later date at the Ferguson family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, New York. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cincinnati Opera, 1234 Elm Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
