Daniel Duke Hugh Safford was born in Saginaw, Michigan on May 1st, 1952. He was the son of Thomas and Georgie Safford, and was the brother to Sim Safford, Tom Safford, Klint Safford, Susan Gaul-Safford, Jenny Safford, and Cindy Brock. After graduating from Rapid River High School in 1970, he attended West Point Military Academy for two years. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree at the University of Michigan in 1973. He worked as a Labor Relations Manager for Procter and Gamble, and has been employed by P & G for the past 32 years. Residing in Terrace Park, Ohio, Duke was the loving husband of Kris Safford, the adoring father of Meggie Safford and Sara Leigh-Manuell, and the proud father-in-law of Adam Leigh-Manuell. Duke Safford was one of the most incredible people in the world. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have known Duke was extremely blessedfor he was simply extraordinary. Duke Safford was not just a manhe was a loving husband, an amazing father, a caring son, a wonderful cousin, an inspiring uncle, a remarkable nephew, a supportive brother, an honorable colleague, an empowering boss, a loyal friend, and a hero to many. Duke Safford lived every single day of his life to the absolute fullest, and spending time with his family was always his top priority. He loved to water ski with his family and friends on Mullett Lake, jet ski, take long boat rides in the Sea Ray, snow ski at Nubs Nob, deer hunt up at Mahskeekee Lake with his brothers and dad, play golf with his brothers, friends, and Meggie, take long Harley rides with Kris, play tennis with Sara and Meg, play the guitar in the living room and serenade Kris and the girls, tell hilarious stories, ride his dirt bike and 4-wheeler at Black Mountain, and watch his Packers and Wolverines every game day! Dukes love for his wife and daughters was immeasurable. He loved his family more than anything in the world and he cared for his friends so dearly. Dukes zest for life was contagious and his love for God ran so deeply. He exemplified true integrity, character and authenticity. Duke was an amazing role model to all who knew him. He always made everyone around him feel important, feel inspired, and feel loved. Duke was an incredible problem solver, a great leader, an eternal supporter, a wonderful listener, and an admirable encourager. He was the most giving, genuine, and loving man in the world. He was an inspiration to everyone, and the sadness of his loss will forever run deeply in our hearts. We are all so blessed, so grateful, so very honored to have been given Duke in each of our lives for these 54 precious years. The intense love for and the amazing memories of Daniel Hugh Safford will remain in our hearts, and his truly admirable legacy will live on foreverand everand ever.
