Ava Tarvin Mahne, age 90, passed away on January 8, 2021. She was born in Silvergrove, Kentucky to William and Dessie Tarvin and had one sister, MaryBelle and three brothers, John, Gerald, and Dale.
In 1937 there was a flood that forced her family out of their house in Silvergrove. They moved to Newport, KY, then to Coldspring, KY, next to Brent, KY, and finally to a farm in Ross, KY. In 1941 Ava’s father died and her mom and children moved back to Silvergrove. Ava’s mother died April 1942 and the children were placed in the Masonic Home Orphanage in Louisville, where Ava stayed until she turned 16. At that time, she had to leave the orphanage and went to live with her Aunt Vernie and Uncle John Smith in Madisonville, OH and attended Withrow High School.
Ava then met Bob Mahne at Woolworth’s, where she worked with Bob’s mom and sister. She and Bob married on July 2, 1949.They moved to Milford, OH in 1957. Ava began working at Streitmans/Keebler in 1958 and retired in 1985. She and Bob lived in Milford until 2013 when they moved to the Lodge Retirement Center in Montgomery, OH. Ava and Bob were married almost 67 years when Bob passed away in 2016. Together they had 2 children, Robert Anthony (Deirdre) Mahne III and Deborah Mahne (William) Duncan, six grandchildren, Taryn (Mark) Heltzer, Sarah Mahne, Laura (Dan) Kerekes, Mark (Heidi) Duncan, Aimee (Tim) Howman, Lindsay (James) Cathro, and 15 great-grandchildren, Caleb, Madeline, Jake, and Nathan Kerekes, Noah, Colin, and Evan Heltzer, Presley and Braylon Howman, Will, Carli, Savannah, and Brady Duncan, and Duncan and Jack Cathro.
